ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Review – Great Netbook For People on the Go

Netbooks are great little computers to carry around for quick reference. They are small enough to fit in handbags and backpacks for ultra portability, and powerful enough for blogging, browsing the internet, and taking notes. The ASUS models are a good choice for netbook users, as they are durable, feature over ten hours of battery life, and have an attraction seashell design. This is my ASUS Eee PC 1005HA review.

These netbooks are generally very affordable, priced at under $400. They feature lots of functionality along with a lightweight style. I love to take mine to the bookstore when I grab a cup of coffee. It’s the perfect pocket computer for writing down my thoughts, and catching up on my Facebook friends on the go. The long battery life means that I can browse all afternoon without having to worry about finding a place to charge my netbook.

The ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Seashell comes loaded with Windows XP, and this operating system is super user friendly, and fairly fast too. I don’t have to wait forever for my applications to load, and the screen display with it’s LED display panel lights up perfectly so that I can see my desktop even when sitting by the window in natural light.

The keyboard is a good size at approximately 92% of a full keyboard, so that it makes typing a breeze. Typing up blog comments, creating emails, and creating documents is easily done without skipping keys.

There are adequate ports on this netbook too with three USB 2.0 ports, ethernet port, a 4-in-1 media card reader, headphone and microphone jacks. The headphone jack is particularly great for listening to tunes while taking a long road trip in the passenger seat.

One interesting feature that I was not expecting with the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA was the Eee Docking software that makes it easy to find all of your software, digital content, and utilities. It’s really convenient. It has Eee Vibe for music and media applications, Sharing for storage, messenger, and data synchronization, Xperience for voice command, and tools for general settings. This handy little application is docked at the top of the screen, and can be put away when you are not using it.

ASUS has done a great job of creating an affordable netbook with high quality features and performance. It has excellent battery life, great graphics, adequate ports, and comes loaded with a lot of tools and software. The attractive and compact design makes it the perfect computer for people on the go.

The Asus Eee 1000 More Power, Still Portable

March 14, 2010 by admin

It often takes high-tech vendors three tries to get a product right. Microsoft Corp. is the best example of this rule of three. (Think of how buggy and insecure Windows XP was until Service Pack 2 came out.) Upstart mini-laptop maker Asustek Computer Inc., it turns out, is another.

The first Eee PC, released last fall, was a $400, 2-lb. marvel. By selling 2 million Eees in nine months, Asus proved to a skeptical industry that less can be more.

But as piping-hot as the original Eee — since renamed the Eee 701 4G — was, the tiny notebook wasn’t fully baked when it emerged from Asus’ oven. The screen, keyboard and 4GB solid-state drive were frustratingly small for many Eee users, while the Wi-Fi was unpredictable.

Asus addressed some of these problems with its second series, the Eee 900/901, boosting battery life in the 901 by swapping out the Celeron-M processor for the new, power-saving Intel Atom, and expanding the screen and storage size in both models.

Now, with the new $700 Eee 1000, which started shipping around the middle of July, Asus has come tantalizingly close to delivering the ideal netbook. Nearly everything that troubled me about my Eee 701 has been improved in the Eee 1000, if not outright fixed, including the screen, keyboard, storage, battery life, Wi-Fi, webcam and more.

The chief improvement is in the design. The original Eee 701 weighed 2 lb. and sported a 7-in. screen with just 800-by-480-pixel resolution and a tiny keyboard for a cost of $400. It was cute as a bug, distracting users from the real reason Asus used such small components — because they were cheaper.

The trade-off in usability was heavy, though. Surfing the Web on the Eee 701 requires users to drag the bottom tool bar left and right in order to view the entire width of a Web page. That move gets old very fast. So do the typos the Eee 701’s minuscule keyboard tends to elicit from all but the most painstaking of typists.

The $700 Eee 1000 sports a 10-in., 1024-by-600 widescreen display that nicely accommodates the modern Web page. The screen is bright and fairly sharp, though colors aren’t rich because of the video driver’s 16-bit color depth.

Samsung Nc10 10” Netbook – the Ultimate Ultra-portable Laptop

March 14, 2010 by admin

With the rest of the notebook industry rushing to grab a piece of the netbook market share, Samsung has responded by producing the Samsung NC10 netbook. Like many netbooks in the market, the NC10 is 10.2 inches wide and has all the basic netbook necessities such as a 1.3 mp camera, 802.11 b/g WiFi and runs on Microsoft Windows XP Home. It is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and has a 160GB hard drive.

The Samsung NC10 has no frills minimalist design and it comes in white or blue. It has a matte exterior and is adorned with a reflective Samsung logo. It simple design and rounded corners gives it a more professional design compared to other Asus and MSI netbooks. Weighing at just 2.8 pounds, it is also lighter than most of the other netbooks in the market (which usually weigh more than 3 pounds).

The keyboard on the Samsung NC10 is 93% of the size of regular keyboards. The positioning of the keys are very comfortable, with a full size shift key below the enter button on the right. The great layouts of the keys take little time to get used to (unlike some other netbook models).

Most of the new netbooks in the market today have a glossy display screen, which greatly reduces its visibility under bright conditions. The screen on the Samsung model is matte, maintaining good visibility even under bright sunlight. Although it has the standard 1024 x 600 pixel screen, the images are crisp and vibrant.

The powerful Samsung NC10 resembles more of a laptop than a netbook in terms of functionality. Due to the extra features found in this model, it cost a little more than the average netbook. From the raving reviews received by this netbook, I would say the price is well worth it!
